Why CSV for cold storage
Excel is nicer to read today. CSV is easier to load into unknown tools in 2032. For cold storage I prefer CSV; for immediate review I might keep both. The point is not religion about formats—it is not betting everything on one vendor’s binary.
Sync completeness first
Export from a device that actually has the historical events. An incomplete sync produces a confident, wrong archive that looks complete until the year you need is empty.
Naming saves future hours
2023-Q3-clientwork.csv beats final-final-export.csv. Include the calendar purpose if you archive several. Future search is a kindness to a stranger who happens to be you.
A note from someone who lost a year once
I used to keep “the archive” as whatever still synced. Then a calendar unsubscribe removed years of client work. The CSV I almost exported would have been enough. Almost does not count. Now I treat archive exports like photo backups: slightly annoying, dated, duplicated.
